If you play on windows pc probably some of you will get diablo 3 requires a new operating system error when installing !
If you’re using Win7 ultimate 64bit and had the “need newer OS” msg have can in compatibility mode (right click installer n go propertys > compatability) and can in compatability mode for win XP sp3 and everything worked fine!
but if it doesn’t work, there’s still some option to choose here
how to fix requires a new operating system in diablo 3 thx to Aspie
I am with vista and don’t have the option of selecting XP service pack 3 as compatibility, so do this:
– run regedit (start->run->type in regedit->hit enter or click ok)
– navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
– find the DWORD value called CSDVersion
– double click it, change value from 100 to 300
– restart computer
– attempt D3 installation
– after finished, change value back from 300 to 100 (not good to claim what you’re not all the time)
This will trick your PC to show you have service pack 3.
another solution for diablo III requires a new operating system error – thx to Aaron
Hey Everyone! So I had the same problems as you guys and I finally fixed it (AFTER MANY HOURS). I am using Vista and Service Pack 2. Well it’s downloading now so fingers crossed. Here is my step by step guide that took me hours to figure out –:
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Scroll down and find “Secondary Logon”
Right Click > Properties
Change it from ‘Disabled’ to ‘Automatic’
Update your service pack from Vista. Restart. Check for updates again.. Restart… and do it again and again (seriously dont get why microsoft can’t update all at once)
Launch the installer (while launched go ctrl+alt+del)
Right Click Diablo 3 and go to process
Right Click Agent.exe and open file location
You should be in a folder called Agent.954
Right click the Agent application in this folder and go to properties–>compatibility
*Uncheck run this program in compatibility mode*
*Check run as administrator*
Click show settings for all users and make sure nothing is checked
Go to your installer and do the same thing you did to the Agent application (administrator, uncheck compatibility, nothing checked in all users)
5: In the processes section of ctrl+alt+del make sure the Agent.exe is not running.. if it is close it.
Now re-open the Agent application in the Agent.954 folder
Then open the installer..
AND VOILA it works.
I have tried all sorts of other ways and trial and error and I found this to be the only solution that has worked. (somehow i feel like i deserve a medal haha) Hope this helps you guys as I felt frustrated the whole day…. (8 hours +)
Once again I am using Vista and I am not sure if it will work for windows 7 but I am guessing it might :)! Hope this helps
