How To Repair Windows XP Without Reinstall

How to repair Windows XP without reinstall, you know there always a problem with our Operating System. And it takes a lot of time to reinstall our Operating System, to make it work “smoothly” again. Some of the problems usually the same either some of the file error, missing or even corrupted, i found a way to repair those error, missing or corrupt file. First you should check what error you find in your Windows XP, and follow the step how to repair it. Now you don’t need to waste a lot of time to reinstall your Windows XP =)

1. Repair Install

If your Windows XP corrupted and you don’t have any other Operating System(OS) to booting, You can do a Repair Install that work just like the first setting before it corrupted.

– Make sure you have a valid key for Windows XP
– All process will take time about 1/2 or 1 hour, depending on your computer spec =)
– If you being asked administrator password, then you should choose second repair option, not the first one.
– Insert your Windows XP CD and booting from that CD.
– When the second option appear R=Repair, press R this will start repairing.
– Press F8 to agree for the next step “I Agree at the Licensing Agreement”
– Press R for your Windows XP directory installed. Usually C:\WINDOWS , Next it will checking drive C: and copy files. And automatic restart if needed. Just leave your CD inside.
– Next you will see a “progress bar” that is part of the repairing, It will seen just like normal XP Installation, that include “Collecting Information, Dynamic Update, Preparing Installation, Installing Windows, Finalizing Installation”.
– Click Next button, and if you being asked for key input your valid Windows XP key.
– Normally you will want to stay in the same domain or workgroup.
– Computer will restart
– Then you will have a screen that the same activating system screen just like the normal installation.
– Register if you want.
– Done !

Now you can log in with your account.

2. NTOSKRNL Missing or Corrupt

If you get an error message that “NTOSKRNL not found“, do this:
– Insert your Windows XP CD and booting from that CD.
– When the first option appear R=Repair, press R. this will start repairing.
– Press the number that suit with the Windows installation location you want to repair.
– Usually #1
– Go to your CD Drive.
– Write: CD i386
– Write: expand ntkrnlmp.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe
– If your Windows XP installed in other location, then change with that location.
– Eject your CD and write EXIT

3. HAL.DLL Missing or Corrupt

If you get an error message that “hal.dll corrupt or missing“, then there’s a possibility that BOOT.INI file misconfigured.

– Insert your Windows XP CD and booting from that CD.
– When the first option appear R=Repair, press R. this will start repairing.
– Press the number that suit with the Windows installation location you want to repair.
– Usually #1
– Write: bootcfg /list
Show list for BOOT.INI file.
– Write: bootcfg /rebuild
Repairing configuration fron BOOT.INI file
– Eject your CD and write EXIT

4. \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG Directory Missing or Corrupt

If you got any error with this :
Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE

– Insert your Windows XP CD and booting from that CD.
– When the first option appear R=Repair, press R. this will start repairing.
– Press the number that suit with the Windows installation location you want to repair.
– Usually #1
– Fill in administrator password if needed.
– Write: cd \windows\system32\config
– Next depend on where the corupped located.
– Write: ren software software.corrupt OR ren system system.corrupt
– Next also depend on where the corupped located.
– Write: copy \windows\repair\system
– Write: copy \windows\repair\software
– Eject your CD and write EXIT

5. NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM Not Found

If you get an error that “NTLDR not found” when booting:
a. For FAT partition
– You can do a booting from your Win98 disc and copy NTLDR file or NTDETECT.COM from i386 directory to your C:\ (root)

b. For NTFS partition
– Insert your Windows XP CD and booting from that CD.
– When the first option appear R=Repair, press R. this will start repairing.
– Press the number that suit with the Windows installation location you want to repair.
– Usually #1
– Fill in administrator password if needed.
– Write this , where X: is your CD ROM drive.
– Write: COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
– Write: COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
– Eject your CD and write EXIT
